Karnataka PSC Prelims Syllabus 2023

The KPSC KAS exam consists of three stages: 

Stage 1: Preliminary Exam - 2 papers - multiple-choice questions (MCQs)Stage 2: Mains - 7 papers - essay/descriptive type (Previously, there were 2 optional papers that have been eliminated.)Stage 3: Interview

KAS Prelims Syllabus:The Gazetted Probationers (Preliminary) Exam acts as a screening test for the Mains exam. According to the Karnataka Recruitment of Gazetted Probationers (Appointment by Competitive Examination), 9th Amendment Rules, 2011, the KAS Prelims exam includes two papers.

Here is the KAS Prelims syllabus:

Paper 1:- 100 objective type questions - 2 marks each- 0.25 marks deducted for each incorrect answer- Exam duration: 2 hours

Paper 2:- 100 objective type questions - 2 marks each- 0.25 marks deducted for each incorrect answer- Exam duration: 2 hours

Syllabus for Paper 1:- General Studies (National and International Importance) - 40 questions- Humanities - 60 questions

Syllabus for Paper 2:- General Studies (State Importance) - 40 questions- General Science and Technology, Environment and Ecology - 30 questions- General Mental Ability - 30 questions

In the KAS Prelims Syllabus, the Mental Ability questions are at a 10th standard (SSLC level), while the remaining questions are at a degree level.

- Current Affairs (National and International Importance)- Indian History (with special emphasis on Karnataka State and the Indian National Movement)- Indian and World Geography (with a focus on Karnataka)- Polity and Indian Economy (covering the Indian Political System, Economic Reforms, Rural Development, Poverty Alleviation, and Social Sector initiatives)

The detailed syllabus for KAS Prelims Paper 2 includes:

- Current events (State)- Important State Government schemes- General Science and Technology- Environment and Ecology (covering general issues on biodiversity, climate change, ecology, and health)- General Mental Ability (including basic numeracy, data interpretation, logical reasoning, analytical ability, and comprehension)
