The CBSE guidelines outline various options for meeting the Educational Qualification eligibility criteria. Candidates possessing any of the following qualifications are eligible to take the exam. The essential Educational Qualifications for the CTET 2023 exam are as follows:
For those aiming to teach classes I to V, only CTET Paper I is applicable. Aspiring candidates should meet the following Educational Qualifications:
- Successful completion of Senior Secondary or its equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks, or enrollment in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education as per NCTE regulations / 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
OR
- Attainment of at least 45% marks in Secondary level (or equivalent), or pursuing the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
OR
- Securing at least 50% marks in Senior Secondary (or its equivalent), or pursuing the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
OR
- Successful completion or ongoing pursuit of a 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) from a recognized University/Institution (with a minimum of 50% marks).
OR
- Candidates holding a 50% mark in their Bachelor’s Degree (Graduation) and possessing a B.Ed. degree need to undergo a six-month Bridge course in Elementary Education, recognized by NCTE, within 2 years of becoming a primary teacher.
Candidates aiming to teach classes 6-8 should take CTET Paper II. Eligibility requirements include:
- Successful completion of Senior Secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks, or enrollment in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education / 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) / B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.
OR
- Successful completion or ongoing pursuit of Graduation or a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
OR
- Attaining 50% marks in Graduation or pursuing a 1-year B.Ed/B.Ed in Special Education.
OR
- Possessing at least 45% marks in Graduation or pursuing a 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) in accordance with NCTE regulations.
OR
- Successful completion of NCTE-recognized B.Ed Programme.
In 2021, CBSE introduced a new eligibility criterion for CTET, as follows:
- NCTE has revised the eligibility criteria for candidates of Teacher Training Courses (TTC).
- Candidates currently pursuing or admitted to any Teacher Training Course (TTC) are considered "Pursuing" and are eligible for the TET exam.
- Teachers applying to schools like Kendriya Vidyalaya or Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti should refer to the Recruitment Rules that outline minimum qualifications.
As per CBSE guidelines, the CTET Eligibility Criteria based on Nationality are as follows:
- Candidates applying for the CTET 2023 exam must be Indian citizens to qualify.
- Candidates from Nepal or Bhutan can also apply for CTET, provided they intend to permanently settle in India.
- Tibetan refugees who arrived in India before January 1, 1962, are eligible for the CTET exam.
- Candidates of Indian origin who migrated from certain countries (including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Ethiopia, Vietnam, and Burma) with the intention of permanently settling in India are also eligible.
No prior work experience is necessary for candidates to be eligible for the CTET recruitment 2023. Both freshers and experienced candidates who meet other CTET qualification criteria are eligible to apply for the examination.
